RaTare

Weeklong hiatus to go on a mission trip. It was really fun, and I worked hard. Which reminds me, commissions are still open. (Shameless advertising.)

Anyways, just posting up some new art, since I’ve got a lot of other things to do.

Maybe livestream a bit… or perhaps pick up LaTale. Haven’t done that in a while.

Lucky Destiny

magic’s in the fingers

Forever Alone dump

Yo, and by the way, I’ll be ordering Long Arm from Powflip, as well as their Big Dumb Book.

And I’m trying to code a tumblr theme too. I already coded one. Check it out at http://altimys.tumblr.com.

Summer is in the air

Literally: summer is in the air. Or all over. To be honest, it's so hot outside that I'd rather stay indoors on my computer.

Anyways, summer is here and school is out. It does make me extremely happy. Unfortunately, because my mother is a stay-at-home mom, she knows whatever I'm doing and won't let me stay on the computer as much. I guess that isn't such a bad thing, so I won't be so addicted.

Posting some new art.

You all have a wonderful, beautiful summer.

One more time, one more chance!

Minamimoto, commission for ~rteazer

Amano Tsukiko Medley Cover [Youtube]

Busy month. State-standardized tests, AP tests (though not me personally), end-of-grading-period tests, orchestra auditions, concerts, recitals. Partly why I’m going on hiatus (sort of) for a while. Less social networking. Though it gives me a bit more time to catch up and begin reading manga. Hehe, what a waste of time, but it’s pretty enjoyable.

Mother’s day is coming up! Everyone have something for their beloved moms yet? I’m working on mine right now…

There’s prom this weekend and I’m staying home since I’m only a freshman. Not interested really.

2nd commission: Doctor Fraz

Long Arm contest: Lawson’s cake

Hehe, spent the whole time drawing after state-standardized tests. Which is why I finished Lawson’s cake much earlier than I expected.

By the way, I’ve received 2 extra dreamwidth codes. Anyone interested? If so, contact me. If not, maybe I’ll save them as contest prizes or whatnot. Gifts? I’m not sure.

facepalm, headdesk

Yesterday I visited my friend, due to a potluck dinner.

I brought my sketchbook, a mechanical pencil, and an eraser to work on some pieces, such as my sister’s commission, which I am beginning to despise. Her character is an evil character, and I think he’s beginning to get on my nerves. How do you draw pretty and evil men? Ah, you know what, let’s base him of Sephiroth. Just kidding, highly unlikely. Maybe just the face.

Well anyways, this particular friend of mine especially loves to steal my sketchbook so she can look through everything, which is quite annoying because of all the works-in-progress, as well as the scrapped works. I should remove the scraps, but it makes the book feel especially incomplete.

I put it in her room for safekeeping (bad idea), and she stole it. I sent my sister to go steal it back. While she did that, I gathered all my drawing utensils. Except, I couldn’t find my mechanical pencil! My eraser was there, but where had the pencil gone? I frantically checked my coat pocket, my jeans pocket, under her bed.

Apparently, she didn’t take it when she took the sketchbook. And so I looked around the house for it.

When I came back to her room to tell her about my inability to find it, I found her, as well as my sister, and other friends, flipping through my sketchbook. What the heck! I sent my sister to take the sketchbook yet she betrayed me and became my friend’s accomplice!

With the combination of the loss of the pencil and the betrayal, it’s easy to say that I was not in a good mood.

I’m not usually good with mechanical pencils, because after the first or second week of use, I break it or lose it. This particular one was my “lucky” pencil since it lasted four months without any hubbub. I guess I’m still not good with mechanical pencils yet.

But all I could do that night, in order to avoid the role of party-pooper, was to swallow my frustration.

I hope that my friend can find it.

Ah, reading back on this, it seems like a stupid artist’s rant. Stupid even for the most serious of artists.

But I just feel so down, my pencil lost, my trust betrayed.

I need to slap myself on the head. So stupid.

The receding throb of school

I was pretty excited today, since I actually completed my first commission.

I’m honored to be commissioned by Samiraku, a wonderful artist. Please go check out her deviantART gallery. This is her original character Mori.

... Mori is one of the hell captains, a very serious hard working guy. The only times he can really forget his worries is when he can hear birdsong. But there are no song birds where he is...

I enjoyed doing this commission very much, because he is such a beautiful character, in personality and design!

Commission slots are still open if you’re interested.

3 other pieces done since the last post:

  Point Chibi commission

Happy birthday to xxxRushi, who was featured on this blog here.

Online club assignment

Drawing on my hand in class. Got scolded by mother. Never completed.

Ah, school is almost over and I’ll soon be reclining at home, drawing like a maniac. Unfortunately, I cannot rest yet, for this Saturday I have a violin festival. And I’m not big on practicing, but I have to for the sake of my pride and my sister’s.

Also this weekend there will be a local arts festival. I most likely will go, since I’ve gone every year I’ve lived here. And maybe I should invite a few friends so we can stare at the pretty pottery, paintings, and all sorts of goodies.

Art blogging

Hrm... As some of you may already know I have a new blog on dreamwidth.org. That blog is more of a personal blog, so I've decided that The Raw Potato will become an art blog. It's much more convenient, I suppose, when I want to type personal thoughts.

As for my tumblr, that's just spam of things I love and admire.

Some newer/posted art:

As usual, each one is linked. ^^

By the way, if you've noticed the cbox in the past few weeks, there seems to be some "Blogobo" spammer, which fooled me at first, but I've banned them. But in doing that, I've also had to take away the email/url link, but it shouldn't be a big problem. The old spam posts are deleted too.

As a side note, I'm holding commissions. Click below for more info. And email me at therawpotato@gmail.com if you're interested!

Good day, everyone! And I hope to get another picture of the day soon!

Origami paper

Yesterday I slept in just a bit too late, so I quickly dressed and shot out the door.

It was only in the middle of my Pre-Cal Test that I realized that my shirt was on backwards. No wonder the collar had seemed so high.

Anyways, I’m actually thinking about opening commissions to the public. I have yet to fully convince my mother to get a PayPal… I need money for a mission trip this summer with my church youth group.

To fundraise I’m thinking of folding 1000 paper cranes. The idea is that someone sponsors me $0.25 per paper crane and they get to sign the origami paper. Maybe they should put a wish in there too, so it’s not just a signature. Though I may have to raise it to $0.50 for good quality origami paper, which is pretty expensive.

Just a bit of digital art, done with my brother’s tablet. Without his permission. But when the cat is away, the mice will play. I really do want a tablet of my own.

Yesterday I was just browsing online and I found a “How to do your own emo haircut” video. Might just try that some day soon.

Night of Havoc part two and other stories while I was gone

Turns out my director didn't kill me.

Thank you, God.

Now on to other topics, XD.

Recent pictures. I won't bother putting up the link because you guys know where my deviantArt is:

Thanks for bearing with me.

I did create a Google Chrome theme, with a few bugs in it. Preview:

This winter break, I guess I got kind of bored.

And if you have a deviantArt, and you’re interested in me drawing something for you, you have 2 options to earn yourself a drawing!

  1. Enter Wytewulf’s group RC-Squad’s contest. It’s Star Wars-based. I’m offering a full-body color drawing to 1st place, a non-color drawing/colored chibi for 2nd place, and a sketch or a non-colored chibi for 3rd place.
  2. Commission me! The only currency I’ll take is deviantart points, because I do not have a Paypal. More information if you’re interested is listed here: http://speckledluminance.deviantart.com/journal/37255945/

Ah, for Christmas I got:

  • Gift card to Borders
  • Zombies vs. Unicorns
  • Travel pillow
  • Fuzzy socks
  • Fingerless gloves *thank you soooo much*
  • Hazelnut chocolates
  • Headphones
  • Strathmore smooth bristol pad

I’m one happy person. ^^

Been reading a bit of D.Gray-Man and Monokuro Kitan. My mother thinks that D.Gray-Man is devilish. It’s hard to reason with her. So I guess I’ll have to read it secretly.

Ciao for now~

Apartment and Chess

School is great! Ok, not really, but school is fine. I just don't have any friends in any of my classes. Except in P.E., orchestra, and science. It's sad. Homework is not too bad either; I just forget to put the homework in the pocket rather than file it in my binder. (So I ended up hurriedly finishing it in class, but the teacher forgot to take up the assignment.)

Remember in my last post, I talked about Martin Wattenberg? [link] He created Shape of Song. And I was looking at some of his other works and I discovered.....

This is an example of the program in 2-D
You type random words in and it creates an "apartment" that categorizes your words into different rooms based on their meaning. Like in the picture above, your ID is very much in your closet (hmmm, I wonder why) and your ego is all around the dining room (why? That beats me). And apparently, freud belongs in the bedroom. As you build your apartment, the words may connect with each other or float between rooms. When you save it, you can view other's apartments and see what theirs is focused on. Vision, secrecy, food, glamor....
Thinking Machine

An example of a game
Basically, Thinking Machine is a program that you play chess with, but it shows you what the computer is thinking as it is making a decision. I'm not a big chess fan, so I thought it looked cool, but I'm not spending my time playing it. Sorry, Mr. Wattenberg. They'd actually make you a real chessboard that does the same thing, only if you'll pay the a five-figure sum. More info found here: http://www.bewitched.com/chess.html

Hopelessness, and FREE REQUESTS

So pretty much I've been so lazy this summer. School is about to start and I've not finished packing my backpack. My schedule is ok, though all my friends are taking tennis and I'm practically the only Asian doing P.E. I'm such a sucker....

In addition to my LaTaling, I've also been trying my hand at Perfect World. It's a lot more complicated. If you don't like complicated things, don't download it. It's not worth your space and time. As for me on the other hand, Perfect World is fine for me (except for the hopelessly skimpy clothing).

A good series to read: Truancy. About this city which is almost entirely focused on education. And there's the Truancy, a rebel organization made of Truants. There's a lot of fighting. Written by Isamu Fukui. He was only 15 when he started writing these books! He first wrote Truancy (2nd book chronologically through the storyline), then he wrote Truancy Origins (1st book), and the last in the series is Truancy City (3rd), which he is still writing right now. You really have to read it. I read it in the order he wrote it, but if you want to read it chronologically, that's fine. I suggest you don't read the summaries on the inside of the book jackets, because they give a lot away. Just read it.

A good movie to watch: Departures. It's a Japanese movie about a guy who works as an NK agent (you'll figure it out later). The whole story is touching (and has its funny parts too) and it won an Academy Award for best foreign film (I think). And, there's a CELLO! After you watch the movie, you won't be as afraid of dead people as you used to be, I promise. (why is this black?)

Failed (x2)

Ok. Apparently sounds4nate doesn't like my paintings. Neither of them. So I struck him a deal: if he doesn't like the third one he can keep all three. And I still get $5! Mwahahaha!

Commission Fail #1: At the Bar

Commission Fail #2: Syke's Sustenance

I was reading Hibiki's Magic (story by Jun Maeda and art by Rei Idumi) because I traded my new copy of Pandora Hearts with my friend G.L. for a week. The side story is so sad. It made me tear up...

Oh yeah, for a science project I had to do over the stegosaurus, I made a salt-dough steggy. The first one burnt up because it was left in the microwave too long. The second one was a success! (Sorry, I have no photos.) And on the way to school, I dropped it in the car just as the radio was advertising tacquitos, so I guess it was randomly named Taquito. I'll take pictures when I get it back.

1st set done!

Hey-a fellas!

Today I'm in a particularly happy mood because I've finished all my commissions yesterday and today! Including the bookmarks. Yep, lamination too!

UberStar for Rachel T.

Here are the 1st set of bookmarks

The top 2 are for sounds4nate, while the bottom 2 are for my other friend. Cristofori & Syke are original characters that sounds4nate and I made up (mostly me, by the way) and Ava (on the bottom bookmark) too. The ninja's on the bottom bookmark are kind of based off Ever After (a webcomic).

I think I'll scan and upload the last one tomorrow. Sorry, sounds4nate. You'll have to wait until Tuesday.
