C♠rdturning

I wrote a review about a book for my local library on the book As Easy as Falling off the Face of the Earth by Lynne Rae Perkins. In return, they sent me this nice new book, The C♠rdturner (ok, the book cover really has the spades symbol in it, but you can see that it's called the "cardturner") by Louis Sachar.

Everyone knows that Sachar is a great author. Just look at his past works.

Well anyways, I'm not done reading it, but so far, I've got to say, it's an amazing book with that trademark Sachar style. Alton Richards has a great-uncle who is uber-rich but is dying. Ever since he was little, his parents initiated Alton to tell his great-uncle "I love you" or "You're my favorite uncle" and etc., so they would be included in the will. ($_$) Well, the great-uncle is turning blind, so he enlists Alton to be his 'cardturner', where he reads the card to his uncle and helps him play bridge. That's right, bridge.

Apparently, bridge is a complicated game that I don't understand yet, and as Sachar says, it is not played a lot nowadays, and young people are especially clueless about it. Count me in the clueless group.

Also very apparent, since my copy of the book was received from the library, it's a "advance reader's copy - not for sale" that reviewers/libraries receive and get to read before it's sold to the public. Mwahahah!

That's all for now. I hope.

You all, my friends

Sorry I haven't posted much while since I've been back. I've been . . . busy. With MMORPGs. (Ok, ok, I know that's not a reasonable excuse, but I'm bored, it's summer, and what else am I supposed to do?)

LaTale, to be exact.

So if you do have a LaTale, you may become my buddy. I'm Integrand, a knight (trying to be a guardian), and I'm level 28, as of now. Oh yeah, I'm playing as a male character with peacock green (although it looks blue) hair and pink eyes. What a shocker.

And I've been trying to write a comic/manga, with the subject of alternate universes and dreams. (And spiders, oh my.) But I haven't even designed the cover (though I've designed the title page and the first 2 pages). No thanks to sounds4nate for helping.... Grrrr...

Some deviations I've posted recently:

Amaranthine Blaze, a request from someone who wanted me to draw her Gaia

Shy, I drew this during my absence from my computer.

Pikachu, for my friend, G. L., the very same one publishing Spades

Trapped in yours forever, a picture I drew to fit the frame, but it looked so good to me, I colored it, and Photoshopped it a little bit

And Chasing Rabbits, a character from G. L.'s story, Spades, named Toto. He's both the dog and the human, but not at the same time, so that means my picture is erroneous.

Oh, by the way, G. L. does have a deviantart. See some of her work at www.coffeeness.deviantart.com.

And, my gracious brother showed me the head ending from Which? It wasn't as scary as the heart ending to me, but it was in the middle of the day. Also, I plan to put a CPR dummy mask (which I got through CPR training, duh) under the toilet lids so one of my siblings will freak out when they open the toilet. Mwahaha....

Miss you all, my friends.

RIP, Rice-cake

Sunday

No picture of the day, because the selected picture's artist has not replied to my request asking to use it.

My friend, G. L., is writing a manga, Spades. It's an "Alice in Wonderland" type of story. The storyline is ok, and the art is good (for about 5 seconds per picture...). In fact, the art looks sort of like Heart no Kuni no Alice. Also, I have her permission to color it on Photoshop and post it here. 8D (Although that's a lot of pages to color -- she has two books already drawn in spiral notebooks.)

I really want to get a bjd (ball-jointed doll), but they are so expensive. Hundreds of hundreds of dollars. I'm too cheap. Though they look cool (and creepy at the same time)...
This just happened: My hamster, Rice-cake, died. Her death was caused by two main reasons: broken arm that resulted in less exercise, that in turn resulted in paralysis, and neglect. I feel so guilty because I neglected her so much, I feel like a murderer.
What to do...?

Tuesday

I started doing commissions for my friends: Drawings, cards, bookmarks, and more. The reason I started commishing is because I want some funds to go on a mission trip this summer and maybe for an A-Kon. Prices are cheap, starting from $1 and ranging to $5. This is only preliminary though, because my art is not that awesome. I've received 2 commissions so far, one from sounds4nate and one from my friend in class. Both are bookmarks. I've finished coloring some illustrations I'm going to put on there, then I will cut out some pretty shapes in construction paper, add some patterns, glue on paperboard, and laminate it. My friend paid me $1 for her bookmark, but sounds4nate came along and bribed me with $2 to do his first. He later told me he'd give me $5, because of tips and that I was his best friend. (^u^) So happy to be a best friend...

I need to go to the store to buy some supplies for commissions. I need some good paperboard and more tools to aid in my commishes.
